Q&A with Vivek Bedi

Exclusive Trusted Magazine Q&A with Vivek Bedi, Executive Leader @ Sortly

How could you describe your career path in few words?

My career path has taken some interesting twists and turns. By education I was an engineer. A double major in computer science and computer engineering to be exact. After spending a few years in the engineering side at Goldman Sachs I realized my heart is more in the digital world. That began my career as a product manager at Goldman Sachs for over ten years. After that I realized hyper-growth companies were a side I wanted to see in action. As the CPO of numerous hyper-growth companies that exited I found that is my calling. Now, I also serve as a board member, advisor, coach, mentor, and speaker in the digital and product circuits.

What are the highlights of the key digital innovation trends for 2023? Can you give us some major examples?

A key digital trend I am always passionate about is user experience. It's critical that products are built with the user experience in mind. Too many digital solutions are not focused on the user and personalizing their experience. Experiences such as Lemonade, Oscar Health, and AppleHealth work on learning more about your and then providing you with recommendations and insights.

Another digital trend I am following is ChatGPT. While this can seem scary to many if leveraged correctly it can be used to make people's lives easier. I recently had ChatGPT create a personalized workout schedule for me, my wife had it create a cooking menu for the family, and my son had a great training soccer schedule for him. But in the workforce, my team uses it to help create themes over millions of lines of feedback we get from customers. Tasks that would take us countless hours can now be done in minutes.

In your opinion, how can they create high value for organizations?

Having a more personalized user focus will help organizations create value by becoming more relatable to their customers. Customers want to know that you understand them. Care about them. Can provide value to them. By focusing on not just delivering features but also finding moments on how to engage with them through the product will lead to a better experience and bottom line for your business.

ChatGPT and other AI tools can be leveraged to enhance your organization's roles. It's not about replacing jobs. It's actually about replacing tasks in your role that are not efficient. If I can have ChatGPT for example replace the more routine tasks of my role it will now leave me more time to do more impactful things such as talking to customers, having planning workshops, and strategizing about roadmaps.
